DISABILITY MODIFICATIONS

A home should be a place that feels safe, comfortable and easy to live in. When your needs or mobility change, even small changes can make a huge difference. It’s not just about accessibility, it’s about giving people more freedom, comfort, and independence in the spaces they use every day.

At SMART Building Specialists, we help Perth families and individuals create homes that suit their needs without compromising on quality or design. That might mean widening a doorway, removing steps, installing an access ramp, installing a walk-in shower or improving a layout and safety in key areas. We take the time to understand how you live and what will genuinely help.

We work closely with clients, the clients' carers, occupational therapists and NDIS participants to deliver thoughtful, tailored modifications. Our team is respectful, experienced, and focused on making things smoother. Both in the way your home functions and in how the whole project runs. No shortcuts, no confusion - just smart, well-built changes that make everyday life better.

Custom Modifications & Home Assessments

No two people live the same way, which means modifications need to be as individual as the people who use them. We work closely with you (and your support team, if needed) to understand what’s working, what isn’t, and what changes will improve everyday life. We assess your space in person and design smart solutions that actually make your home easier and safer to use. That might mean installing ramps, re-configuring access ways, or lowering kitchen benches for easier reach.

NDIS-Approved Work & Sensitive Project Delivery

Navigating funding can be complicated, especially through NDIS. Our team is experienced in working within NDIS requirements and making the process smooth for participants, families and support coordinators. Just as importantly, we handle every project with care and respect. You won’t have to worry about messy worksites or trades that don’t communicate. We treat your home with the same care we’d expect in our own and we make sure every modification is done properly, from start to finish.

How can we help?

Accessible Bathrooms and Showers

We convert or build bathrooms to suit your mobility needs. This includes level-access showers, grab rails, adjusted tapware, and non-slip flooring. All designed for safety and ease of use.

Ramps and Step-Free Access

Whether it's a front entrance, patio, or garage, we install custom-built ramps and threshold adjustments to provide smooth, step-free access to your home.

Door Widening and Access Paths

We widen door frames and adjust internal layouts to support wheelchair or walker access throughout your home, including hallways and living areas.

Kitchen Modifications

We can lower benchtops, adjust cabinetry, and improve appliance access to make kitchens safer and more functional for people with mobility limitations.

Bedroom Adjustments

Modifications include repositioning power points, increasing circulation space, and ensuring appropriate support structures are in place for equipment like hoists.

Grab Rails and Handrails

We install secure, well-positioned grab rails and handrails in bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, and other high-use areas to reduce fall risk.

General Mobility and Safety Improvements

This includes non-slip surfaces, threshold reductions, secure flooring, custom lighting placement, and other tailored changes that support safer movement around the home.

NDIS-Funded and Fully Compliant

All work is completed in line with Australian Standards and NDIS Home Modifications Guidelines. We work with your Occupational Therapist’s recommendations and can liaise directly with your support team.
